Help your child see clearly and learn with confidence
A child’s vision is constantly developing, and vision problems detected at an early age are easier to correct. Good vision supports a child’s development, concentration and learning success – it is a gift for life.

When should you bring your child for a vision test?
Pere Optika welcomes children from the age of 6 for a vision test. The first check is important before starting school, and after that we recommend having the eyes checked once a year. If you notice that your child squints, gets tired quickly while reading or complains about blurred vision, it is time to book an appointment with an optometrist.
What is checked during the vision test?
During a children’s vision test, we assess:
visual acuity and how the eyes work together
the suitability of existing glasses
eye muscle function
if needed, we refer the child to an ophthalmologist for an additional examination
An optometrist can issue a repeat glasses prescription from the age of 6 and a first glasses prescription from the age of 12. For younger children, the first glasses prescription is issued by an ophthalmologist.
First vision test – come together with the family!
If a child under the age of 12 needs their first glasses prescription, please see an ophthalmologist. Young people aged 12 and over, and children from the age of 6 who already wear glasses, are welcome for a vision test at all our stores across Estonia.
For glasses buyers, the test costs only €10. And if you are already coming, come with the whole family – the price of the vision test is the same whether only one person attends or the whole family does.
What should a parent know before coming?
Come for the examination when your child is healthy.Even a mild cold or tiredness can affect the accuracy of the vision assessment.
The examination takes about 30 minutes. For younger children it may take longer – please allow enough time and come with a calm mindset.
If your child already wears glasses, bring them along together with the glasses prescription – these help us assess changes in vision. If you are a Pere Optika returning customer, we already have previous information in our system and there is no need to look for the prescription.
Tell your child in advance what will happen during the examination. This helps reduce anxiety and makes the whole experience more pleasant for them.
